About

The Canal Museum can be found in the heart of the village of Stoke Bruerne on the Grand Union Canal, and it is a great place to learn about the fascination history of Britain's canals. There are a wide range of exhibits that allow you to follow the story of the great engineers and navvies who created canals, and to learn about the leggers, lock keepers and boat families who lived and worked on them. There is a recreation of a boat builder's workshop to explore, traditional clothing and beautiful historic signs to see, plus models of working boats, such as butties, narrow boats, tugs and barges.

You can see early footage of working boats on the canal, plus a 1970s documentary about them. A free audio guide is available to help you and the kids explore the museum, and it will also take you from the museum along the banks of the Grand Union canal to the Blisworth Tunnel, which is a great way to end your visit.
