About
Towcester Museum can be found in the courtyard of a former Georgian coaching inn, in the middle of historic Towcester. You can follow a road through the history along ‘Watling Street' in interactive exhibitions that take you on a ‘journey through time'. Find out about the time between the Stone Age and the fall of the Romans, and has a model of an Iron Age settlement, a scale model of Roman Towcester, plus a fully armed life sized Roman soldier.
You can also learn about Boudicca's rebellion and see a reproduction of the famous ‘Towcester Head' Roman sculpture. Discover key characters from Towcester's past, plus more about the skirmishes and Civil war battles that took place there, and the Great Fire of Towcester. Kids will love learning grisly facts about the history of Towcester, from Dorum, their friendly fat guide.
They can also try on historic costumes in the dressing up area, and there quizzes, worksheets and puzzles to complete.
