About
Westward Ho! Named and indeed built after Charles Kingsley's 1855 novel this is a sandy beach backing onto a pebble ridge, with excellent swimming in Blue Flagged waters and exploring to be had. Also offers kite sports (01395 222551) and surfing opportunities, as well as amusement arcades and a putting green.
Lifeguard cover is May to September but please ensure one is within sight before you or your family enter the water. At very low tides you can see the remains of a mesolithic sunken forest and peat beds, which makes for a nice educational moment. Please note that the contact information is for the Bideford Tourist Information centre, please plan your journey independently.
