Slapton Sands and Torcross Beach - Photo 1

About

Slapton Sands and Torcross Beach offers a pebbly beach no good for sand castling but it's offset by great water activities at the Torcross end, including surfing, windsurfing and canoeing with lifeguard cover May to September. It's also worth learning the significance of the flags as they offer advice on swimming conditions: you can pick up a flag guide at the local Post Office. Immediate vicinity amenities include an accessible cafe and a nature reserve with trails.

There are also disabled access toilets by the beach and a ramp access point. You can also bring the family hound along all year round too. It's significant to note that northern sections of Slapton Sands are popular with naturists.

It does often include whole naturist families, can be an educational eye opener and can certainly start some interesting discussions but may not be everyone's sort of thing and not necessarily something you wish to come across unexpectedly, so please ensure you plan carefully in advance which 'bits' you want to see. This end of the coastline incorporates a lot of nature reserve type environments and as such is a Designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so well worth exploring a little off the beach as well. There's also some significant WW2 history associated with the area but it's not very happy reading, sadly, and you may want to take it easy on the details for under 8s.

Good for: all ages, babies toddlers, older children, teenagers, young children
