About

If you're looking for new outdoor habitats to explore and trails to walk and conquer, try The Wrekin Walk. Set in the beautiful Shropshire Hill Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, you'll surely be blown away by the peace and tranquillity. Wrekin Hill Around 1000 years old , Wrekin sat at the centre of historic royal hunting forests, woodlands, farms, villages and towns.

The forest is no longer there, but Wrekin hill stands proudly there. You'll be treated to spectacular views all around you as you walk along the permissive paths. Also, the area around The Wrekin is the most diverse geology found on Earth...

Due to its type of rocks and the age of when these rocks were originally formed. Did you know Wrekin's oldest rocks were formed at the latitude of the Falkland Islands - 600 million years ago ?! And the rock's journey has led them through tropical forests, sea life, deserts and ice ages through the years.

It's of historical and geological significance that these rocks that have made The Wrekin have also experienced earthquakes, erosion and volcanic activities. So, there are indeed volcanic rocks here too! And it's now a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest .

As you walk up the top of the mountain you'll find what is known as Heaven's Gate . Where part of the hill fort, an embankment was made. Here you'll find footpaths of those who have walked through here and have eroded the geological material beneath, but now you'll discover a creamy white and purple volcanic rock .

With plenty of woodland and walking trails to discover, you and the family will have an outdoor adventure! With 360-degree panoramic views of this natural landmark and its surroundings, it'll be a day out to remember. You'll get plenty of fresh air, physical exercise and the feeling of accomplishment as you tackle the challenge of climbing The Wrekin and its beautiful hills.
