Wings Museum - Photo 1

About

Wings Museum is a really good place for the kids to find out what it was like during the second World War and involves plenty of sensory elements as well as the education. It's not too harrowing but doesn't glorify the war, casting a great balance for a family visit and ideal for backing up school work. The museum is housed in a large hangar style building which is divided into sections for dedicated subject areas if you're after more in depth access for older types and those doing extra credit reports.

The centrepiece of the museum is a complete plane fuselage which you can walk inside and explore! Surreal and exciting and perfect your little aeronauts to get their imaginations going! There are original items on display from the Battle of Britain, the Blitz and Dad's Army.

These include engines, propellers, uniforms and many more interesting objects. Kids can listen to the sounds of the Blitz as they step inside a real Anderson Shelter or experience what it was like to be a paratrooper on D Day. There is also a display of aircraft that have been recovered from the Russian front and this is the only place in Europe that you can see them.

This museum is about real people and it is dedicated to all those who fought and died during World War Two and will really give the kids a sense of history and what it was like during that time but without laying on the horrors too thickly.
