About

Whippendell Woods is 165 acres of woodland, believed to be more than 400 years old, on the edges of Watford. Due to its variety of woodland habitats this beautiful space is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest, which means there’s lots of diverse areas for families to enjoy. Unpack a delicious picnic and your favourite ball game on one of the many-grassed areas for a relaxing afternoon soaking up the summer sun.

Dogs and children will love paddling in the streams so make sure you come armed with wellington boots and/or towels! The wet play can continue in the outside pool and splash park where you’ll also find a few cafes and play areas. The woodland itself is a fantastic place to let your imagination fun free, discover roots that could double up as monster claws and listen out for the sounds of nature and wildlife rustling in the trees above you.

Nature’s playground at its very best! Circular walk through the woodland Home to The Watford 10K race Sections of Star Wars Episode 1 were filmed here!

Good for: older children, teenagers, young children
