We tell the story of the UK’s first children’s charity and its first public art gallery – the outcome of a centuries-old project designed to care for and educate London’s most vulnerable children. Visit us to uncover the incredible story of Thomas Coram’s hospital for foundlings, and learn about the lives of the children who grew up there. Explore more than 285 years of London history at through our objects, stories and world-class art.
Particularly moving are the tokens left behind by the mothers who gave up their children to the care of the Hospital, as well as the testimonies from former pupils. These stories and special items will give you the chance to explore new subjects with your children.
