About

Holidaying in the Southwest? If you're setting up camp in Devon this Summer then you MUST hop aboard The Burgh Island Sea Tractor. This one-of-a-kind experience is perfect for adventurous families who want to shake up their days out.

About Burgh Island... Burgh Island is a tidal island on the coast of South Devon in England near the small seaside village of Bigbury-on-Sea. There are several buildings on the island, the largest being the Art Deco Burgh Island Hotel.

You may recognise Burgh Island from top-grossing films like Agatha Christie's Miss Marple: Nemesis, Poirot, Lovejoy and so many more. But Burgh Island isn't just a popular spot for film sets! Families love flocking to this craggy island for its amazing views, rock pools, and of course, the blue flag awarded beach.

At the hotel, you can also enjoy a quintessential afternoon tea. You can't beat a hot drink paired with majestic views, am I right? Aside from the Sea Tractor experience you can go fishing, learn about architectural history, visit the Mermaid Pool, embark on the Agatha Christie Mystery Mile across Torquey or explore the beautiful gardens on the island.

The Tractor Experience Designed in 1969, the Sea Tractor has become a historic icon, not just in Devon but in the world! It's the first of its kind and was created in exchange for a box of champagne... The tractor is the best way to arrive through the surf to Burgh Island from Bigbury-on- sea where you can enjoy a drink in the historic Pilchard Inn or at the Burgh island hotel.

Along your short journey across the water, you'll get to soak up magical views. Once you've arrived you can enjoy a signature afternoon tea at the hotel or you can spend the day on the beautiful sandy beach. You can get to Burgh Island on foot during low tide or you can swim there - this will take 40 minutes.

The tractor ride costs £2 each way per person. This experience is dependent on weather conditions so make sure to pick a nice sunny day.
