Southwell Minster - Photo 1

About

Southwell Minster with its majestic Norman nave and glorious 13th century chapter house is one of the under-discovered jewels in the crown of Nottinghamshire and a great little stop to get the kids' imaginations going. It's what you wish to make of it, but a valuable stop whether taken as educational, religious or whimsical. You can catch a musical interlude at regular occasions featuring one of their 3 musical troops: The Minster Chorale, The Minster Girls' Choir and The Cathedral Choir, which together form the Minster Music Foundation.

New this year is the Full Day Tour, consisting of Introductory Video (half hour); Minster inside Tour (hour and a quarter); Minster External Tour (1 hour); and a State Chamber and Gardens Tour (3 quarters of an hour). Ideal for older types or those wanting an in depth experience of this most beauteous of buildings. Shorter general Tours of Southwell Minster, with a trained Steward, can be pre-booked via Mrs Nikki Smith in the Minster Office.

If a number of visitors are coming informally and do not wish a guide, they still urge you to contact Mrs Smith to make sure there is no event, or rehearsal, in the Minster that might clash with and detract from your planned visit. An excellent audio tour is available for individual visitors to hire from the information desk.

Good for: babies toddlers, older children, young children
