Free Family Days Out in Skegness
Sand dominates the seven free Skegness listings, but not entirely. Central Beach Skegness, Chapel St Leonards Beach, Anderby Beach, Moggs Eye Beach and Ingoldmells South Beach run along the coast north of the town, each a little quieter than the last. Skegness Pier and The Village Church Farm are the two entries recording indoor space as well as outdoor, and on this stretch of coastline that is worth knowing, because the wind arrives before the rain does.
Pick your beach by how far you are willing to drive for quiet. The busy end has everything you might need and the quiet end has room, and neither is the right answer for every family.
Free days out in Skegness: FAQs
Which beach suits a family with small children?
Central Beach Skegness is the one with the town behind it, meaning toilets, food and something to do when the sand stops being enough. That convenience is worth more than it sounds with children under about six. Anderby Beach and Moggs Eye Beach are the opposite proposition, quieter and emptier, which is lovely with older children and a long walk from help with younger ones.
What is there to do if the weather turns?
Two of the seven record indoor space, so the options narrow fast. The Village Church Farm is a museum site with buildings on it, which gives you somewhere to be that is not the car. Skegness Pier also logs indoor space and a pier is by nature a partly sheltered structure. Beyond those two, a wet day on this coast means finding something that is not on this particular list.
How far apart are these beaches?
Far enough that they are separate outings rather than a single afternoon's wandering. The coastal strip runs for miles and the named beaches sit at different access points along it, each with its own parking and its own walk down. Choose one and stay there. Trying to sample several in a day means most of the day is spent in the car, which is not what anybody came to the seaside for.
