About
Woolley Wood has a great variety of trees, some of which are not native, so it is a great place for kids to compare and try to identify different species. Look out for the yew trees as they are unusual for this area. Hundreds of beautiful bluebells can be seen during the spring, plus a number of plants including wild garlic, wood anemone and yellow archangel.
There are so many different birds to watch out for, plus animals that include squirrels, moles, hedgehogs, foxes, rabbits and weasels. You can also find bats such as pipistrelle, noctule and leislers breeds. Don't forget to keep an eye out for all the insects too as there are over 100 types of butterfly and moth, plus bees and various beetles living in the wood.
Keep your eyes peeled for archaeological finds as this is a great spot for them. A bronze age axe, coins and pottery have all been found here. If possible, download the online guides for this woodland, as it is full of interesting information about the history and wildlife of the area.
