About

The Ridgeway National Trail is one of 15 National Trails in England and Wales. You can follow a route that has been used since Prehistoric times, by soldiers, travellers and herdsmen, as you pass through ancient landscapes full of loads of great wildlife to spot, plus interesting archaeological sites. Along the Trail, you can see forts and castles, the Bronze Age White Horse, and standing stones, plus watch swans and boats on the Thames.

Chilterns Beech woods and Waylands smithy can also be found along the way, and Avebury World Heritage centre is at one end of the Trail. There's always something happening, from village fetes to local farmers markets, so check out the event listing to see what is on. If you want to walk as much as possible, you can complete the whole trail in about a week, or you can visit for the day and choose a section to explore.

There are campsites along the Trail and dogs are welcome but must be kept under control at all times. It is a good idea to take a map or navigation equipment.
