About
There’s far more to the museum than first meets the eye, and no wonder – it’s housed in the Bulmer’s 1889 cidermaking factory with large cellars underneath. The original ‘’champagne cider cellars’’ are very atmospheric, displaying over ten thousand bottles in racks where the “Méthode Champenoise” was first applied to cider in 1905. Other parts of the cellars contain a cooper’s work-shop, vat house and bottling hall with oral histories.
A highlight of the collection are the stunning 19th century watercolours of cider apples and perry pears. Temporary exhibitions add changing themes to the displays and show how apples continue to inspire us today.
