Strutts North Mill - Photo 1

About

Strutts North Mill was built in 1804 and is one of the oldest surviving examples of a ‘fire proof' industrialised building. It is recognised as one of the most important buildings from the Industrial Revolution in the whole world! You can choose to explore the mill at your own pace or join one of the daily tours that are led by friendly and knowledgeable guides, who are great at bringing this building to life.

Discover the stories of the mill workers and the Strutt family, learn about cotton spinning and stocking making through original machinery and interactive models. You can also dress up as a mill worker, design socks and get hands on with different fabrics, which the kids should love. Once you have explored the mill and museum, you can stretch your legs by taking a stroll in the beautiful River Gardens, or on one of the historic walks around the mill town of Belper.

Check online to see the museum's calendar of events, plus the list of changing exhibits to be held in the Upper Wheel Pit Gallery.
