About
St Bees Beach has been awarded an ENCAMS Seaside Award recognising the cleanliness of the area so you can be reassured that your little one is paddling in pleasant water. ) you can check out the brand new playground, with features including a play galleon, zips wires, agility assault course and a 6ft climbing web! All with beautiful sea side views of course.
The beach is gently sloping and generally free from dangerous currents. However, as always, caution should be exercised when in the water, particularly with off-shore winds. The beach is a magnificent shingle with dozens of varieties of rock sloping down to good red sand, and extends southwards for about a mile or so.
The sandy areas are accessible at all times except for two or three hours on either side of high tide, when only the shingle is clear of the water. Main Beach Car Park is the largest area and, as the name implies, is by the main St Bees beach. Parking charges apply.
There are two sections, one is the municipal car park (nearest the caravan site and properly surfaced) and the other belongs to the Seacote Hotel. The difference is not readily apparent! Charges apply to both.
There are two main points of foot access, at the Seacote Hotel, and at Seamill Lane. You are permitted to walk dogs on the beach but please clean up after them. The postcode given is for the local tourist information centre to use with satnav, so please plan your full journey independently.
