About
Shipwreck Museum is a small and independent museum based in the historic town of Hastings, with artefacts from many ships that were wrecked in the English Channel, plus exhibits of fossils found in the local area. It is free to visit, although there may be a charge for some exhibitions and events throughout the year. Come and explore the wrecks of the Dutch East Indiaman Amsterdam, and the Warship Anne, the best, known surviving vessel from Samuel Pepys' Restoration Navy.
Travel back in time to 1749 when the Amsterdam was wrecked on the Hastings shore and was quickly swallowed up by the beach. This is a story of storm, mutiny and wrecking. See the treasures from both wrecks and go on guided walks to the Amsterdam herself when tides permit.
Enter the world of the dinosaurs and travel back nearly 140 million years. Get to know more about what life was like back then during the Cretaceous period. See dinosaur footprints and strange fossils as well as the finely preserved head of Lepidotes, a 138 million year old fish, still with its teeth!
Find out how you can discover your own dinosaur remains on the local beach. The museum also has a varying range of travelling exhibits.
