About

The Scottish Fisheries Museum is a multi-award winning national museum suitable for families which tells the story of Scottish fishing from the earliest times to the present – and beyond! A guided tour takes approximately 90 minutes and themed tours can be arranged to link in with specific projects or interests. You will see historic fishing gear and fishing boats, including the Reaper, the Research and the Lively Hope, which are an official part of the National Historic Fleet!

There are fascinating displays depicting all angles of the social and regional history of the fishing communities which sprang up around the industry's hotspots, with The Fisherman's Cottage and Loft providing a full size diorama of a typical 1900 example. At the other end of the scale The Future of Fishing exhibit showcases ultra-modern mass fishing technology and teaches the potential consequences they are risking. It's well ramped throughout and there are baby changing facilities so your pushchair shouldn't be a problem, plus public transport access is great with 2 services stopping directly outside on opposite sides of the road.

Handy! A word to the wise about the Memorial Room, it's tastefully done but poignant and sad, so might be best avoided with small or sensitive sorts.

Good for: babies toddlers, older children, young children
