About
The Rye Harbour Nature Reserve is an acknowledged Site of Special Scientific Interest, supporting many unusual plants and mini beasts awaiting your discovery! It's a fairly isolated environment so you'll need to dress well and take your kit bag, with binoculars, camera and sketching materials being great ideas to slip into spare spaces! A thriving network of footpaths offer scattered high quality bird hides for your ornithological pleasure (all with disabled access), plus a marvellous mix of terrains makes for exciting hikes on which one might cover sand, granite, meadow, wetland, woodland and salt marsh.
With such a massive range of eco systems this is a top spot for taking little nature enthusiasts to record and identify the creatures you encounter. There is a distinct historical element and a chance for some secret schooling in the presence of military fortifications spanning several centuries' worth of architectural styling. There is an information point in the carpark where you can pick up pamphletary and whatnot about the area, but it is unmanned, so if you venture further to Lime Kiln Cottage (signposted) you can find informed volunteers on hand with more resources and facilities open from 10am to 4pm daily with some seasonal variations.
