Robertson Museum and Aquarium

At Robertson Museum and Aquarium the Marine Station houses is a small public museum and aquarium, named in honour of David Robertson. The museum exhibits illustrate the history of marine science, features of the marine environment, local marine habitats and examples of current research at the Marine Station. This means it's either a highly educational trip with a wealth of secret schooling to be had, or a wonderfully interesting point and walk trip with younger sorts.

Or a combination of the two! The Station also houses part of the Robertson Collection: a comprehensive collection of specimens of the fauna of the Clyde Sea-area. The aquarium displays the beauty and diversity of living marine creatures from the area so again it's nicely regionally educational but just as valid entertainment wise to just wander around freely!

The Marine Station is on the outskirts of Millport, on the Isle of Cumbrae in the Firth of Clyde. The island is served by a regular roll-on/roll-off ferry operated by Caledonian Macbrayne; the crossing takes only about 10 minutes. The mainland ferry terminal at Largs is within fairly easy reach of Glasgow and Prestwick international airports too.

). Once on the island, a bus service connects with the ferry and there is a stop outside the Marine Station (journey time 10 minutes). So getting there and back is half the adventure!
