Wilton Windmill

Wilton Windmill is a working 19th century mill that still produces wholemeal stone ground flour. The mill is located on the top of a chalk hill in the open countryside so it really stands out in the landscape. The level grassy site is open all the time, so it is a great place to go for a picnic with the family on a sunny day and enjoy the breathtaking views over the Downs.

Dogs are welcome but you are asked to please keep them on a lead, plus to clear up any mess The guided tours are led by friendly and enthusiastic volunteers who are happy to answer any questions the kids may have about the working of the mill. There is an information centre on the ground floor of the windmill which has some great audio visual displays to explain how the mill is used to create flour. Even when the mill is closed, you can still enjoy the view from outside, plus the kids can learn about how it works from the information board, which also provides notices about events at the Mill.

Please be aware that it is only possible to reach the upper floors of the mill using steep steps, which is not suitable for everyone, but this is due to the 19th century design. The ground floor is fully accessible though.
