The Clifton Suspension Bridge has a Visitor Centre by the Leigh Woods toll booth on the Bridge gives helpful information about the history of the Bridge for families to base their visit and studies on, including how it was built and how it is looked after today. You can also buy activity packs, books, postcards and souvenirs. ).
In the summer at weekends there are free guided tours. Go to the Bridge website for details. There's a really spectactular view of the bridge from Observatory Hill in Clifton, you just follow the footpaths up to the top and if you're feeling brave - or pressured by children - you can zoom back down to the base on the awesome Rock Slide, which has been polished smooth by Bristolian bottoms over 100s of years!
For a small additional fee you and the kids can also visit the Camera Obscura and Giant's Cave at Clifton Observatory. Worthwhile additions to a family day adventure and exploration!
