About

Watersmeet has 2,000 acres to explore, with a dramatic river gorge, over 40 miles of footpaths, a lovely Edwardian Tearooms and Gardens, amazing views and lots of wildlife! It is open all year during daylight hours and it's free to visit, making it a great place for a low cost family day out without skimping on the splendour. Watersmeet was originally built as a fishing lodge and romantic retreat, and it has been a tearoom since 1901, so they know their stuff when it comes to making a traditional cream tea!

The area around Watersmeet can't be beaten for its great variety of trails and landscapes, whether you are looking for a short stroll, or a proper hike. There is something for everyone to enjoy, from the wooded East Lyn River, to the stunning sea cliffs of Countisbury, and keep an eye out for the wildlife, which includes red deer, otters, and buzzards! You can even bring the family dog for a wander, although they will need to be kept on the lead, especially in the Spring on moorland and farmed land.

The Lyn river is fantastic for canoeing, with plenty of tumbling rocks and deep pools to negotiate as it passes Watersmeet House. It is also great for fishing, with Salmon, Brown Trout, and Sea Trout in season between March and September. Fishing permits can be obtained from Watersmeet House, and other local businesses so you can have a classic afternoon with the kids by the river.

Why not read them Wind In The Willows while you're there!
